Research

AppointIT’s smart technology is based on research sponsored by the National Science Foundation of the United States government to identify scheduling issues within the health care industry.

Researchers examined 1.5 million patient encounters within 9 months from 38 clinics that operate in urban, suburban and rural areas, operated by large health care providers.

Compelling evidence suggests the following:

  • Matching patients with their preferred physician during scheduling will reduce patient no-shows

  • Patients are more likely to arrive late, or not show up at all, if the appointment doesn’t match their physician or timeslot preferences

  • Tracking patient preferences allows practice managers to recognize scheduling patterns, allowing them to match supply with demand

  • Patients are less likely to revisit their health care provider for the same ailment if they see their primary care physician on the first visit

  • Clinics lose revenue when they don’t accommodate same-day demand

  • Patient satisfaction begins with their ability to access health care services in a timely manner

  • Patients have different acceptance probabilities for each physician and timeslot combination, and they typically have several acceptable combinations when they attempt to schedule an appointment
